How it all began...

Pupils could compete in Pangea for the very first time in 2013, when the first edition of the competition took place. Since then, primary schools and multi-year grammar schools all over the Czech Republic have taken part every year. Since 2016 the Czech class of the European School in Brussels and pupils from the children's wards of selected hospitals have joined in as well. Pangea is unique in offering maths problems drawn from the everyday life of each of us. We choose different themes every year, so every pupil can take part again and again without solving the same or similar problems. Recent themes have included architecture, medicine, sport, transport and food... All the maths problems from previous years are available to download here, so that teachers can use them in ordinary maths lessons too.

Besides the problems to download, we have another advantage for teachers. Unlike in some other maths competitions, teachers do not mark any of the answers. When their school takes part in Pangea, all they need to do is set aside time for registration, then 45 minutes for solving the problems in the school round, and, for the "offline" version, send the printed answer sheets back to us. Pupils get lots of interesting problems to solve, and teachers get less work.

Every competition has prizes to win, and the Pangea mathematics competition is no different! We can already reveal that the winners of the final round will receive special and valuable gifts, such as tablets, scientific calculators, vouchers for books and electronics, and other prizes. We also have a big surprise ready for everyone in the final round! Besides the competition itself, pupils and the people accompanying them can look forward to a grand results ceremony attended by respected and well-known personalities, not only from the world of mathematics.
